Drum Machine
When I was in high school someone or the snares and the quad player, came up with a short cadence similar to this that was put on the front of our actual cadence. They would talk about how the beginning is from the Blue Devils drumline when they played, “When a Man Loves a Woman,” in the 90s. I don’t know if BD took it from Bell Biv DeVoe or if a drummer’s brain paid attention and heard the opening snare rhythm in a lot of 80s and 90s hip-hop, either is likely. This is the original song I’m talking about. You can hear the same part in the first few seconds, but it’s also in others. I don’t have a recording or audio of the original cadence, we didn’t have electricity back then. I referenced it by memory alone and made revisions for a different drumline.
